Public Lecture Series for School Students and Everyone

New Series of Lectures on Modern Physics Topics

The Institute of Experimental and Applied Physics at the University of Kiel (CAU) has launched a new public lecture series on Saturday mornings. The series, titled "Saturday Morning Physics," will feature topics in modern physics that are accessible to high school students and the general public.

The first lecture in the series, "The Standard Model of Particle Physics," will be given by Professor Dr. Thorsten Wengler on Saturday, March 11, 2023, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm in the lecture hall of the Institute of Experimental and Applied Physics (Arnold-Heller-Straße 10, 24118 Kiel). In this lecture, Professor Wengler will introduce the Standard Model of particle physics, which is the fundamental theory that describes the elementary particles and forces that make up the universe.

The lecture series will continue on the second Saturday of each month through June 2023. Other topics that will be covered in the series include:

  • The Higgs boson
  • Dark matter and dark energy
